Why is so much of the RedRiver south marina area off limits? Was there this morning looks like a ton of fishable water to me

Is the river still flowing quickly. lots of floaters heading south when i was there a couple of weeks ago.

the tree line that separated public from private was virtually gone. the red river marina attendant said to stay away from the far north and northeast bank.

The off limits area North of the boat ramp at RR South is called "The Cooley's". It is considered "private", even though it is accessible year round at normal pool stage. This is due mainly to the "Good Ole' Boy" network in Louisiana. If you have enough $, and/or Connections to the right people, you can get anything done in Louisiana. In this case, the good ole' boys got together with LADWF and The Corpse of Engineers and had all of this open water deemed private in order to keep the normal working man/recreational fisherman trash like us out of their honey hole. It is a sad commentary.

Also, check out what BASS is doing next year on the Sabine...All LA waters are off limits, for similar reasons. It is a sad commentary on a state that claims itself to be "The Sportman's Paradise". It is, but only if your brother-in-law is a government official, or you have the political clout to be able to enjoy it.

I found grass and pads but there were not any fish in them, shallow water temps were in low 90's

I've never seen anyone get in trouble for fun fishing cooleys even though it is off limits for tournaments. They wanted it marked as private when duck hunting was really good back 10+ years ago and every year there is talk about can you fish it or not. It is some of the best water to fish but just can't do it during tournament.

That's pretty sad. That is a slippery slope when they can start claiming pools of water private property when convenient to them. I guess that's what was going on this year in back of some creeks on fork. I'm with hoodat92, the good Ole boy network for sure. Andy, if you can fish it Monday thru Friday, it shouldn't be private during duck season or on weekends.. most give duck hunters there space during the season if they have any sense. Most waters are managed and maintained by money obtained by us fisherman. Champs and Bass should go elsewhere in the future then ask the businesses in the area how they like the good Ole boy network.

I don't even think there is a duck blind in there anymore. It has always been dumb to me how they claim it as private. I don't mess with the river much anymore just because the fishing sucks and we have 10 other lakes within 30-45 min drive. It's sad to because the river use to be unbelievably good but it just a mudhole now.

I wish Champs would dump the Red....fishing and running your boat there is terrible.
