I am looking at used boats and have seen a number of posts around the web concerning the big block Yamaha HPDI motors prior to 2007. What about the Series 2 engines? Specifically, I am looking at a boat with a 250 HPDI Series 2 engine.

I am running a 250 HPDI 2008. So far so good. And yes it is a Series 2.

those motors depend on maintenance, if you keep on top of the service you rarely have any issues.

This is spot on what I've been told. HPDI all about the maintenance.

I own an HPDI. IMO, keep up with the filters religiously, use atleast 91 Octane gas and fuel stabilizer, and warm up the motor in gear before you punch it.

Thanks guys. The boat I am looking at has had all the "mystery" filters addressed and also has a spin on fuel filter/water separator.
