I'm sure most of you know this but maybe others can benefit from it. A friend showed this to me last year and it sure comes in handy when fishing for suspended fish. Check you spinning reel to see if it has this little plastic tab on the spool. Not knowing the correct lingo for it, I just call it a line anchor. Let's say the fish are suspended at 18 fow then peel off the amount of line you need and with the bail still open, just slip the line under this plastic tab. Close the bail and you're ready to go. Every time you cast your jig it will stop at the desired depth. Works great for keeping jigs right at the top of a brush pile.

To whom much is given, much is required.

clap

For those that don't have a reel with a line stop, you can use a Sharpie marker on the line. A wipe with some alcohol will remove most of it.

I've always used it for holding the line when not on a rod. Very cool trick!

ANOTHER LITTLE TRICK!
I've been using the line anchor for years and I have 1 suggestion. Let your line out to the desired depth, close the bail and with the anti-reverse off, pull line for 1 turn of the reel handle then set the line in the anchor and once anchored, reel 1 turn of the handle. Now you know to let the line out to the anchor then close the bail and take up 1 turn of the reel handle and you're at the correct depth. I've had my line break more than once right at the anchor before I started doing this. NOT ONCE SINCE.

If you're going to use the anchor, do it this way. Otherwise, it's only a matter of how many jerks before your mono/fluorocarbon line breaks.

I like the idea. I've been using red permanent marker to mark the depth. The only thing is that if you get hung up and have to break off several times during a day then you have all these 4" red marks on your line. roflmao Also, the only thing I can think of is just be ready to pull the line from the clip if a big bass or yellow cat starts ripping drag. eeks

You can also use a slip float knot. Just tie it on your line and set it at the reel when you are at the desire. Always works for me.

I do the same thing but use the rubber style bobber stoppers. (The ones that are black or orange, shaped like a grain of rice). I found them a lot easier to slip up and down your line.
