But every time you try to put in reverse it dies. Boat is in water not on muffs.

String around prop shaft maybe? Sounds like more torque getting put on it in reverse.

Is it OK when it's in forward?

Yeah, first thing I'd do is check for 50' of braid wrapped around the prop if RPMs are good at idle. If that fails, next I'd look at fuel. Gunked up carbs (Ethanol), fuel lines, leaky bulb, stuff like that.

Any recent maintenance?

friend replaced all coils plugs, fuel pump ,gas tank, primer bulb. I filled it up yesterday with non ethanol gas.

Whoops, then i'd start looking at coil wires all the way to the plug. Maybe one was pulled off accidentally.
