@ SARG...i seen seabee park sign on my way to the damn, ill have to fish there next time. Are these silos you talkin bout reachable from the bank? But even if they were, i dont know how to keep my bait off the bottom with a slip sinker rig using enough weight to cast a good distance. Ill have to hold off on the jug style 'til i get me a boat i suppose. So yall think all waters have a thermocline goin on right now and my dry spell is due to fishing the bottoms.

We haven't seen a thermocline at phantom yet this year. But I would stick to fishing fairly shallow. Under 15'

When I lived in West Texas in Abilene, we almost never fish Ft. Phantom for catfish. Kirby and Lake Abilene past Buffalo Gap were the bank fishing catfish areas. Other than that walking the banks of the Brazos was our other catfish options. My father would use blood bait a lot for summer fishing, otherwise, we used minnows or worms. I was a tiny girl and my dad had us fishing with cane poles and a slip cork. I was catching catfish left and right and a bunch of adults around me were not happy at all that they were getting skunked. I believe I was using worms as bait that day.

There was a real nice spot on Elm Creek north of Abilene off of the road that goes to the west side of Ft. Phantom Lake, but that was too many years ago to remember the exact spot. Our mother liked it because it had a lot of huge old trees for shade and was a nice place to take lunch or dinner while dad fished.

Its actually the Silo's and north where the houses are
Always held good box fish blues and decent yella cats
Easier if you have electronics as they move in and out
Throwing 4oz slugs can get you out far enough passed the rocks
Problem is the better fishing is out behind the houses and folks aint friendly like they were back in the 70's.
Failed to re do my rigs before going out last night and got broke off twice with 25lb line
Solid fish, easily 20+lb(the bigger ones are showing back up aka: post spawn/ever year)
That lake is very predictable once you spend enough time on it

@ SARG...How do you rig yours? Your fishing from bank? When i cast with a 4oz should my drag be tight or loose? All my reels have 20lb and i use 40lb for leader. Is this correct? What would be the best way for me to suspend my bait about 5-6' off bottom while bank fishing? I have some frozen perch and bluegill caught at PK last week i think ill try as bait.

Use a long leader 40"+
Large cigar float down close to the bait
It will float it up some if the bait isnt to heavy

Damn thieves! Hate people that leech on everybodies hard work! Oh ok so pretty much just depending on how high off the bottom i want the bait will determine my leader length. Thanks! Also, this may be a dumb question but when i read info about lakes i always see people referring to "upper resevoir" "lower resevoir" "upper 1/3 resevoir" "below damn" "above damn" "downstream"
"Upstream"...can anyone explain to me how to figure out these locations? Wife has a class in san antonio today so i get 8 hrs to go bank fishing. Gonna try Canyon Lake and maybe guadalupe river if no luck at canyon. I really appreciate all yalls help.
