Title pretty much sums it up. Brand new to kayak fishing but just got a perception pescador so I am hitting Lake Lewisville this Saturday for the maiden voyage. Any advice/tricks/tips for a newbie are greatly appreciated. Anyone have good launch points or good spots to hit? If anyone is heading out this weekend let me know!

Start early to avoid the boat traffic and drunks.

Ha! I figured as much! I plan on being there and launching at sunrise (650ish) and probably be wrapped up by 10 - 1045 ish. Think I'll be clear?

Would not take the maiden voyage on most parts of lake Lewisville on a weekend. There's more yahoos on Lewisville than any other lake I fish.

All but the Doe Branch ramp require a fee.

If you must fish Lewisville, I'd launch from Eastvale Park or some other out of the way ramp to stay at the back of the creek arms nowhere near the main lake.

I'll be launching from Murrell Park in Grapevine if you would like to tag along.

Which launch? I typically put in at Twin Coves Marina and fish both arms.

Straight thru the gate. Just past all the mountain bikers. Short paddle to Twin Coves from there and there are a couple good coves along the way.

Travel light on your first time out, and get rod floats for when you aren't using them. Waterproof tackle boxes are nice too because they'll float. Good luck.

Wear your PFD and take a whistle and plenty of water and sunscreen. Make sure that you can reach your stuff. If you have to turn around backward and reach for something you can flip over easily.

If and when you hit lewisville stay north of the toll bridge. Less traffic there, good fishing for cats etc.

Seems like the experts say grapevine so I'm gonna head out to Murrell park tomorrow morning. Gonna get there right at sunrise. IF anyone sees a blue GMC with a blue kayak don't be afraid to say hi.

I'll be there at about the same time. Red kayak. Probably a Hobie Revolution.
