I made the switch to Motor Mate a few months ago and was wondering if others use steer stays with their motor mate. I have continued to use my steer stays up until the last few trips and just cant decide which way to go. My concern with using the steer stays is that they are just slightly off from the position the motor mate sets the motor in and I am afraid they might tweak the steering arm. Anyone have any input or suggestions? Are the Steer stays overkill with the motor mate?

Wasted extra step. Motor stays rock solid on the Motor Mate. Those steering clips will serve no function with this "motor toter".

I use both on mine and have for years. Not sure about the possibility of tweaking steering arm. I wouldn't think so. But I did not stay in a Holiday inn Express last night either, or I might have a better answer for you.

Over 6k miles last year towing my boat using only the motor mate. (Honda 150) Zero issues whatsoever.

I figured they were unnecessary since the motor mate braces from both sides as is. Thanks for the replies,

Yes, motormate advertises them saying it makes the steering chocks unnecessary.

I only use mine when I'm on a long trip , probably not necessary . Motor never even wiggles with a motor mate installed correctly . I have missed one side of the trip buttons before , and a big bump will knock it out , I have a cable on mine , also handy if your leave it in before launch , just trim up , release the cable , pull it out of the water , and go fishing .

No need to use steering stops. The MM shouldn't let anything move side to side. I've had no problems at all with mine.

I use the Motor Mate only.

Mm only. Used another brand before this and it seemed like it made my trim cylinders start leaking. No leaks since I switched. Same thing happened to my stepdads boat before he switched.

I've got a new in box Model 10-301-SSB. Fits Yamaha 115 - 175. Bought it from Tackle Warehouse for $129.99 + tax & shipping. Sold the boat and never took it out of the box. Will sell it for $100.00 face to face DFW. PM if interested.
