I'm going to try net fishing, but I don't know exactly if it's allowed in TX? If yes, what mesh size should be and any ideas about other states?

Thank you guys for your help.
Chris

Where do you live? A cast net @ Squaw Creek will get you all the Tilapia you can carry. Be appreciated too!

Get a job!

Actually, if you want to fish with such things as hoop nets, gill nets, trammel nets, seine nets, fyke nets, wing nets, etc. in Texas, you will either be working as a commercial fisherman or a fisheries biologist. I chose the latter and fish a lot with all manner of gear (by permit) for the purposes of taking environmental samples, fish population studies, undesirable species removal, collecting specimens for public aquariums, etc.

However, even POSSESSING some of that gear without a permit or a very good reason can sometimes be very problematic. The TPWD link provided in a post above is very specific and will answer your questions about legal gear and methods. I know in my county you get drawn and quartered for illegal fishing gear and methods. Not worth it.

Go to Fairfield. You can net all the Tilapia you want. And be doing everyone a favor.
