HELP, I'M LOOKING AT BUYING A BOAT THAT HAS a 2004 Evinrude 200hp Direct Injection motor. I know that BRP bought OMC in 2000 and shut down manufacturing until they built a new factory and renewed all tolerances before they restarted production.
My question is ...I guess in 2004 the Evinrude under BRP was still using the Ficht injection, but, are these engines better than they were under OMC build?? I've heard they are far superior to the OMC's builds and are good engines.
I really like the boat but, it's not priced with the option to re power as an option.
Any you guy's "in the know" can give me any advice?? The seller say's the engine runs great and has 460hours.
HELP !!
Thanks, Jeff

the reason it is priced less than others is because of the motor if the same boat in same shape had a merc or Yamaha on it would bring more money.

It's NOT priced less, as I said , it's not priced in a way that makes room for re-power.
That was not my question.

The majority of the problems came on the 1999 and earlier 150 and 175...the 200's were fairly reliable, most of the problems came from the overheating of the EEM's... when they got hot some of the circuit boards would let go...mechanically a strong engine and the FICHT design was used for many years... that being said if you are not handy and must take everything to the dealer you might want to skip this one, the only dealer I could find that would look at mine was Action Marine in Austin...they couldn't get to it for six weeks so I dove into the problem myself... they were great help and would help with troubleshooting my problem over the phone... The EEM can be rebuilt by DFI electronics in GA...the guys there worked for OMC during the early days of FICHT so they know their stuff and are very willing to share info with you (talk to Chet)...I just finished rebuilding a 2000 200hp FICHT and it runs like a champ...I have the Evinrude software that will list all previous engine fault codes and operation parameters if you get serious about this engine we can verify all of the owner claims... I live near WACO, these engines are somewhat of a hobby of mine... pm me if you want more info...

Thank you for that helpful information. I think I'm about to pass on it. I also found out that no one in corpus christi works on them and I have 2 left feet for hands. So...think I'll pass.
Thanks jeff
