Has anyone else had experience with Moby Dick's pond right outside of Austin? We went last weekend and didn't have a single bite all day. Place had great reviews online so hopefully it wasn't just my incompetence lol

Any day on the water is a good day!

I've been researching that place. It has some good pics, but I haven't seen anything worth the hour drive.

I manage two Trophy Lakes in Devine,TX and we are very strict with how much pressure we allow on our bodies of water so that we can ensure our customers get the best opportunity they can. If you are interested send me a PM and follow me on Instagram as well for pictures and updates. We have boats on-site and lodging as well if overnight trips were desired. They rest in a 15k acre ranch that is surrounded by all types of wildlife. I've been raised in a guiding family so I know fishing is not catching but I've personally managed these lakes and the fish are there and on the right day it can be unreal. My most recent outing was 2 weekends ago and between 2 people we boated 126 fish in 4-5 hours. Now most of these fish I'd say 70 percent were all in the 1-3lb range. This lake is one that we are currently trying to transport fish to another lake. Out of that group we had 10-12 fish from 4lbs to 8lbs and we lost one that I'd estimate close to 9lbs at the boat. But the bigger fish are less common on this lake. Our trophy lake boast the exact opposite and on a great day you'll boat 50-60 fish and and the chances to land a 8+ lb class fish is very good. But it's fishing and nothing is ever certain. What I can assure you is that the ground work has been done to put our clients in position for a great outing. I personally do all the guiding and I come out every trip regrdless if it's guided or unguided to make sure the customers have a chance to succeed. If anyone is interested now is the time to catch the big ones. The colder months have always been better for bigger fish so if you can brave the elements come on out!

Ryan,

Is this the same ranch that Jim Savoie helps manage? What is the name of the ranch?

Steve

Great. Jim is a nice guy. I electrofished those lakes a few years ago and the big lake is cool place to fish for sure.

I took my wife to Moby Dick's pond when we first got into fishing to try to get her her first fish. We fished with live bait we bought there and did ok. Caught a bunch of bluegill, and she caught a 1lb or so bass that got her hooked. I caught a dink bass, a crappie or some sort of panfish I'd never caught before and a bunch of bluegill. Most were caught on worms and the minnows or shiners or whatever the little baitfish are that they sell there. Some others by us caught a catfish. Nothing too big, but we still enjoyed getting some help when we didn't know anything about fishing and hooking into a few.

We fished on the wooden dock area, for what it's worth, from like 7-9am in September.
