I've chosen to fish Joe Pool as my focus lake since moving to Texas. I'm curious as to what is the best color to use on a Carolina rig fishing in 30' of water? I'm thinking dark colors.. watermelon/red.. black and blue, etc. I watch Bill Wilcox and he seems to live with chartruese/pepper.. at least shallower than 30'. not sure what he uses in deeper water. Anyway, what say you? and thanks

i imagine there is a thermocline set up by now. i would try to find that range, and fish right above it. should be around the 15-17' depth range. i dont change specific colors, just use the same ones you have confidence in now.

Dark colors on dark days or stained water and greens or reds on sunny days. BUT, there really is no set deal. You can throw whatever you want and get but most the time. If it seems off change it up till you start catching them

Watermelon seed has been my best color on Joe Pool by far. Couldn't really tell you if that's because it's the best color for the lake or just the one I'm most confident in, but it seems to work.

I appreciate all of the input guys.. my best color on JP have been Houdini for drop shotting. Its a miss mash of glitter in a light green worm. I haven't been fishing deeper than around 20' lately and haven't caught a keeper in a few trips. I've caught fish, but just no size at all.

Hope to change that tomorrow!

Haven't really looked for the thermocline but as of last week I was still catching in 20-28 ft.

My top two colors for a Carolina rig are Chartruce pepper and Trophy Hunter (by Grande Bass). Any type of soft plastic in Chartruce pepper seems to work, lizards, french frys, ring frys, LFT creature baits, Grande Bass rattle snakes and baby snakes, and bubble frys.
