I have been considering buying a newer Mercury outboard to replace my 2001 Mercury 225 EFI. Where the heck do you look? Is it just pure luck to find what you want?

Hmmm. Must be top-secret information.

There is guy in Fort Worth that sells used/rebuilt Mercs but the ones I looked at were mid 90s. Look on CL in boat parts.

No top secret stuff. Like anything else newer model outboards are fewer juat because they're still running good so there aren't many in the market. If you're wanting a 3yr old or newer you may have to try to find a dealership that haa a non current year model they'll sell. You'll just have to keep your eyes open on multiple forums & act fast if you do find one. Look at BBC motors forum also. You can check brand specific for them.

I decided to just keep my ole girl and bought a new Tuffskinz to wrap her up in. I spent a little more money this go-around and bought the 2-color type with the HP on the back. It looks REALLY GOOD!

I would run that motor until it blew up, you don't want to deal with the merc pro xs issues.

I was told these exact words by a guy in Old Town Spring.

My Pro XS has been cranky for its entire time of me owning it. Don't get water in your gas bang
