Took my nephew out on his first crappie fishing trip on Friday. I hope he realizes it's not always this good.
Most of our fish came from 16-22' water, anywhere from 12-18' down. A little shallower early(7-9am), and a little deeper later(10am-12pm).
All were caught off JERRY'S JIGS. Nephew fished 1/8oz in Pearl/Chart, Purple/Chart, and Gold/Chart. (I had him use crappie nibbles too. I think it helps the rookies get a hook set). I fished a double rig: 1/16oz Green/Chart and 1/16oz Black/Chart. Very few throw backs, and only a few 10" fish. Most were good quality. Biggest being about 1.75lbs, and our top 7 a little under 10lbs.
Had our limit by noon, and only fished about 6-7 brushpiles. Scanned several, but didn't stop to fish unless it held good numbers.
Lake was dead calm most of the day, which didn't help the heat...but the 9' patio umbrella sure helped.
