Thinking of leaving hot Houston for cooler fishing trip. Can anyone recommend a bass guide on this lake and a motel or resort to stay? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Contact Eddy Lyback of Lyback's Marine and get his input on location, resort, guides, where and how.

He's the only marine dealership on Mille Lacs and his family is fifth generation residents.

Josh Douglas. Great guide. He might be away fishing the tour. If you can book him you will be happy.

I usually stay at the Grand Casino in Onamia. Good room for a decent price. Josh can also hook you up with a place to stay.

The Casino is good, but the tribe also runs Eddie's, newly renovated and right on the water.

Based on the videos Josh Douglas and Seth Fieder make I'd call Josh too. The rock reefs out there are all marked with bouys so just get out with a sidefinder and find the big rocks.

Izaty's is a nice place on the south end and has a great reef right outside it. The south end of the lake has the most rock piles. The north end is more sand.

It's getting to absolutely beat to death right now. I had a buddy there the past couple of days. He said every offshore hump had dozens of boats on it and that was BEFORE the was a 270 boat tournament going on this weekend. The lake has been getting a lot of publicity lately and it's getting an enormous amount of pressure as a result.

the last post was right on, it is incredible how many bass boats are on Mille Lacs this year. The parking lots used to be full of walleye boats now they're all bass boats. Thank God for catch and release!

For such a big lake it fishes small for bass.

I agree. The lake is getting absolutely pounded right now. Even mid week the parking lots on every side of the lake are full of bass rigs. It's actually pretty unfortunate and the AOY could be the downfall of this lake. My family has a cabin on the NE side of the lake and I am there quite a bit. Starting after the AOY last year, the pressure on the lake is just unreal. But on the plus side, big fish are still being caught out there. For a guide service check out JP, Josh Douglas, Mark Schultz, or Jim DeRosa. All great guides out there.

Now you understand what happened to Toledo Bend, Falcon, and Amistad here in Texas. Hopefully the smallies will fair better with the extreme pressure than the largemouth did down here. I was sure happy to see BASS send everyone somewhere outside of Texas. thumb
