Last weekend, I was getting extremely light bites on top-water poppers. Just retrieving, popping a long, and suddenly it was gone. Looked like I snagged something. It just goes under the water. Then, you realize is going sideways about 90 miles an hour. Happened 5-6 times.

I've actually put together a pattern multiple times fishing a jig with a death crawl retrieve along rocky shore lines and you will get a very subtle bite and I just wait for the line to move

When you don't feel a bite and see your line moving it is usually a good size bass. The little ones haven't learned that technique yet. They will as they get older, and bigger.

When in doubt, set the hook. I fish jigs a lot, and I have caught many fish when I set the hook being very unsure if I really was getting a bite or not. Watch the line closely at all times.
Sometimes nothing is there, but if anything seems odd I set the hook.

The more you fish a jig, the more you will love that bite! Almost everytime it slacks up on you or runs side ways its a better than average fish, just in my experience, Ive also caught big ones that just thumped it and sat there. Love that jigbite its always a mystery
