Got my hook 7 on the water finally and have some questions.
First, what I think are fish are showing up as near horizontal (angled) lines rather than arches. This is while paddling at 1-4 mph. Chirp sonar on default settings. Why?

Second, I paddled about 4 miles offshore today to what navionics says was a wreck. I then circled all over the spot and never saw anything on the sonar. This is brand new navi plus, updated, and chart setting on nav fish n chips. Is navionics wrong or is my sonar not working properly?

Also got the transducer on the ram ball arm mount. I'm finding it really hard to tighten the knob enough while on the water causing the arm to want to move.

You might want to read this thread for some possible reasons for the lack of arches. Some of the explanations they give are that the lines might not be fish (air bubbles instead) or the fish could be moving.

I use a transducer arm too and have had the same problem but not as bad as yours sounds. I try to adjust everything as best as I can before I get underway and if I have to make adjustments on the water, I make sure to loosen the clamp a lot to prevent the ball from moving when I move the arm. Once I tighten it down, it seems to stay in place.

Another thing to consider is that the arm can act like a wrench on the ball when the kayak is moving. If the arm is hanging over the left side of the kayak, the resistance from moving through the water is going to push back on the arm and possibly loosen the ball. If it's on the right side, that same resistance is going to push back on the arm and tighten the ball.

I can't help with the navionics question. Maybe you can get someone with sidescan to see if they can find the wreck.

Thanks PlanoTom. I was in open water offshore and would see one almost horizontal line every once in a while. I'm wondering now if it was just a streaking fish. Nothing would be suspended where I was.

So my 1" ram screwball literally snapped in half while on the water today...

My screwball cracked in half recently, too. I think it was because I was trying to adjust the transducer arm without loosening the nut that holds it to the screwball. I put too much pressure on it and it broke. Since then, I make sure to loosen the arm before I make adjustments and I also bought an extra ball that I carry in my hatch.
