Lately, I've been catching some really nice bass in the lily pads using vintage lures like the Herb's Dilly, Shannon Twin Spinner, and both Rex and Johnson spoons with pork trailers. Just wondering if anyone else out there is doing this.....

Where are you finding pork trailers?

I never go to a Wal-Mart without looking in the fishing section for Pork Trailers. Since December I have acquired 9 more bottles. You can never find them in the actual tackle stores anymore, but a store like Wal-mart gets ignored so you can find hidden gems every once in a while.

If you have any of the Old Johnny O'Neil Weed wings they can be deadly!!! All are Truely Classic OLD SCHOOL!!! Need to have a Classic Lures Tournament! Nothing newer than 1990 lures and just Monofiliment!

Why aren't they available in stores anymore? Did Uncle Josh go out of business?

No, they're still in business but quit making their pork products. They can longer get fat back that's thick/durable enough to make pork trailers. I heard it was because hogs are slaughtered at 6 mos of age these days. Rather than 2 to 3 yrs old which was the norm "back in the day".

PorkO's. ...... 6 & 8 inchers twitched and killed for some fun, they would nail it on the pause.. My parents may still have some, I remember they bought a mixed case years ago.. They dry out, but I think you can revive them.

Where are you finding pork trailers? I still have 12 or so unopened jars of Old Josh 6" and 8" eels and split tail eels that are quite old - but as good as ever.

Just wondering if anyone else out there is doing this..... phototex, we used to fish with little slivers of fatback, trimmed, for everything that swam in stock tanks around Ft. Worth. Once one managed to get a hook through the pork skin, NOTHING could get it back off. Question: So, fishing in the pads . . . how are you managing your technique? Are you hanging up at all in the pads or pulling through cleanly? I've got pads, lots of them, tons of them. We've cleaned up a lot now, so not like this any more, but here is me (see pic) about a month ago mucking them out of my boat stall. Brad

I like that you dress up in a polo to jump in the water.

I like that Herb's Dilly and still have one. I've been using one of these lately: private image uploadAlso using what I think is an old Strike King buzz type bait with a hollow body that spins on a shaft and has a single hook. Don't know what it's called. They float when you stop the bait.
