Anyone know if fishing is good here. Especially in the small surrounding lakes. I am going for vacation to galveston so i am looking for something without a lot of people around like the piers. Also what do you recommend to use as far as bait

it depends on what time of year but it can be decent. The marsh is super soft back there. The grass flats in Dana's cove is a decent wade but watch out for the cuts next to the old geotubes in the back.. You can see them on google earth. Summertime, no problem but don't step off in one during the winter. Fall and Late fall you can catch some flounder and reds in there... late fall and early winter can have a few trout in there as well.

Bait.. well if you are wanting to throw live bait then live shrimp, pin or piggy perch, or croaker, or mullet.. all work fine. I would stick with the shrimp more than likely but they all work. Cut mullet chunks also work for dead bait for reds and so does live baby crabs.

As for lures in the fall you really can't beat a spook junior in bone or something weedless, which is usually pretty hard to find but I spent the last 7 years prototyping a castable, weedless, walk the dog, slow sink soft plastic. Sure you can rig anything weedless, doesn't mean you can cast it very well though. This was designed with that in mind. Cast very well, has good walking action, and sinks slowly (even turns back to the fish when stopped). Other lures you can use are spinner baits, and weedless gold spoons. Keep it simple.

So glad I saw this post. I am a bass angler but me and the wife go down to Galveston a few times a year and a little farther down the coast with family at other times. I have just never gotten into surf fishing or on the jetties but always wanted to take my bass equipment and learn where and how to fish the bays and this info and the bait shown in the video has got me excited for the next time I go down. I also have used Flukes forever in my bass fishing so it would be an easy way for me to fish since I like that technique for catching fish. I also feel like this would be just as good of a bass lure also.

Go across the road to the freshwater ponds. There are some big ditch pickles in them. smile

Great advise from TroutSupport, do go weedless on the bay. When I'm there, I wade both the bay and surf and have caught fish from both but the surf puts food on the grill each time. Good luck and fish both!!!!
