Good afternoon TFF! I have been bouncing around from lake to lake the last few weeks, and despite it being the middle of summer, the crappie bite has remained very strong. Here is what I've been doing to put fish in the boat.

Lake Lewisville:

Finding and catching fish in 15-22ft of water on brush and timber. We have been focusing on main lake piles close to deeper water. My customers and I have been fishing 1/16 ounce unpainted heads with Thump Chubbies in the Fishin' Farmer and Carney Man colors. The fish have wanted the jig moving and are still thumping the jig with plenty of gusto. As of Friday, the water temp where we found most of our fish was 85.

West side of Ft. Worth
(Eagle Mtn, Benbrook, Worth, Weatherford)

I'm surprised by the quality of fish these little lakes continuously put out. To be fair, I rotate them often as to not pressure them too much, but the quality is still fantastic. I am starting my mornings in 8-10ft, and finishing up somewhere in the 18-20ft range. My bait of choice is a Thump Chubby in the Carney Man color, and just like on Lewisville, I am keeping the jig moving quite a bit. I have had the joy of teaching many folks the finer points of pitching a jig, a skill that at this time of year can make a very big difference. Everyone on my boat is fishing the lightest jig head they can confidently fish. Water temp is 85-87 in the mornings and 90-92 in the afternoon.

Cedar Creek

The crappie bite on this lake has surprised me more than any other lake this summer, in that it is still going really well. We are starting our day on main lake structure in 12-15ft and will finish up in 18-24ft. The name of the game right now is fish like you are in a tournament. By that I mean if there is a 2 minute pause between bites, it's time to move. Getting a mess of fish on Cedar Creek right now is simply a numbers game. Pull 2-4 off each pile, hit 10-15 piles, and shazaam, you've got yourself a mess of crappie. Water temp is 86-88 in the mornings and 90ish in the afternoons.

If anyone would care to join me on the water, I am more than happy to take you. We can talk fishing at 817-266-9811. Also, if you want to get on a good fall bite (October/November) please give me chance to take you out. The fall is my favorite time of year to guide for a reason.

Thank you TFF!

Good stuff Lane. cheers

And +1 on pitching the jig. I have been catching a bunch lately by swinging the jig over top of a pile or swinging it into a pile. thumb

Solid info. Thanks. I'm a long way from where you are fishing but I may give the "swing" a try on my home lakes.
