I've had the chance to get on Lake McQueeney a couple times and always get blanked. Any suggestions? I've been fishing the lily pads near the dam and around a few boat docks on the down side of the lake but can't seem to have any luck. I've thrown the kitchen sink at them weightless senkos, chatterbaits, rattle traps, flogs and a slew of others but I can't seem to land any. I usually fish early from 6:30-9:00 am. Any recommendations?

I havn't been on McQeeney in a while, but a 4" black/blue TRD ned rig on the deeper docks on Dunlap has been getting me many more bites than anything else. Maybe it will work on their sister fish too?
Good luck!

You're not the only one struggling. McQueeney has been on a down turn for almost 2 years now; Dunlap too. I've fished it a few times and I know several buddies who fish it quite a bit, and one of them lives on the lake. We've all said it's not the same anymore. I can go to either and catch one solid 4 pounder and then 3-4 eight inch fish and that's it. It's very weird! I don't know if the floods last year and the year before washed out a lot of fish or if the lake is just not doing well. I'd suggest downsizing your line and baits. Trick worms on a shaky head might get you 3-4 bites but that's about it. You're not gonna catch a lot of fish out of the Guadalupe lakes right now, especially McQueeney & Dunlap, as they're always finicky this time of year. Weightless Senko's are always good but you said you haven't been doing to well on them. If it were me, I'd throw finesse baits or find some rocks and drag a small jig or a small Tx-rig around. Drop shot will get you bit, but you probably won't catch any size. If you like fishing pads a lot, I suggest you put the frog away and throw a swim jig through them. I wish I could give you more positive news or reports but I'd be lying to you if I did. Best of luck to you.

I convinced myself it was the amount of boat traffic in the summer months playing a factor because it certainly wasn't my fishing skills in question I thought about running up river next time closer to the Dunlop dam instead but that's uncharted territory for me. Might just need to stick with catfishing on this lake...

Boat traffic doesn't make it any easier, that's for sure.

The big question is how in the heck did you get on McQueeney?

Built up a little speed and jumped the dam up river When they bought up the old marina, that was the last public boat ramp. The Ski Lodge is private and they've started enforcing who loads and unloads. Now, like they said, you almost have to know people. I wonder if they ever stocked the river, and now since it is essentially "private" with no public ramps, maybe they stopped? Certainly no issue on cats, that place is loaded with'm

I wouldn't do that now. I'd hate to come back and see my boat and trailer being towed. If you wanna know my honest opinion, it's really not worth fishing right now. I'd go fish Meadows or Gonzales instead of McQueeney. I've been hearing that those 2 lakes are on fire right now.
