Looking at getting a casting rod for fishing plastic worms, etc. Suggestions?

How heavy of line and weight do you intend on throwing? What is your budget? As a general worm rod, I like something 7'-7'3" medium heavy. Bottom contact presentations, like worms, really benefit from a sensitive rod, so I would not skimp on that one.

Some folks say that fishin on a Sunday is a sin, but if a fish bites my line, you know I'm gonna reel him on in!

I usually use 15 or 20lb big game with 1/4 oz-1/2 oz weight. I've been using a medium heavy 6 ft 9 Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 but I'm not feeling the bites very well. Looking to upgrade from that.

Depending on how much you want to upgrade, hard to beat a NRX 893 or 894. Dobyns has great rods as well, lots of good options.

I use a Kistler Magnesium 2 7' MH.
By far my favorite worm rod.
Winn grips are great.
Rod has just enough tip where I can flip 3/16 weight with a 7" worm around docks and brush easily.

Get rid of the Big Game for fishing any soft plastics, go with a fluorocarbon line and tungsten weights. Sure it costs more but the benefits are better. I switched from Big Game 4 years ago and I haven't looked back. The only thing I use Big Game for now is moving baits.

In my opinion, the best bang for your buck would have to be the Wright and McGill Skeet Micro Honeycomb 7'2" Med Hvy Jig/Worm rod paired with and Abu Garcia Orra SX 7.1:1 (on sale right now at TWH). Im telling you its an all around great rod. You can do almost anything with it. Ive got five of them and I'll throw a spinner bait, swim jig in the docks/grass, big worms in deep brush piles, buzzbait... man, its a great all around, do anything set-up. But for what you are asking, go buy some Seaguar 15lb InvizX 100% florocarbon and you will have a perfect set-up to throw a worm in any depth zone. Hope this helps.

I own an NRX 853 and 893, and they are my favorite rods in my collection; however your wallet sure isn't going to like it. I would go with a 7'1" to 7'3" MH rod (personal preference, as I do not like shorter rods). If you want actual rod suggestions, "budget" ones would be the Dobyns Fury line or Daiwa Tatulas (can be found for $70 to $80 used and should be in the familiar price range of the Veritas); you could also look here for used Dobyns Champions for under 200. If going to fluorocarbon is a little hard to swallow, try braid. I use 20 to 30 lb braid for my typical t-rigs and all purpose setups. Braid won't fray or kink or go bad like fluoro eventually does; I have braid on my reels that's been there for over a year. Maybe buy some fluoro or copolymer (P-Line is great) for a leader if water clarity is an issue. Cajun Bass is right though. Don't skimp on a bottom contact rod.

I just did the opposite. Tired of fluorocarbon breaking in the reel. Going forward,Big Game and braid!

You do not say what your budget is, but I am a Dobyns guy. I like the FURY rod for that, the 735. Here is the link, hard to beat for $110 rod.

Hope this helps. I prefer the champion rods, but those are at $260. But the 735 is my favorite for their, too. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I use a Waterloo Phantom 6'6" medium light for a worm rod paired up with a Curado 70HG.. I'm one of the few that like a really sensitive light rod for plastics....

I ended up getting the Dobyns Fury FR 704C. It's been great so far.
