Brazos long nose probably ok to eat but I do not know. Check TPWD for consumption band/advisory. Fish live sunfish 2 to 3 feet under a cork on a #4 or #2 treble hook. Allow 5 minutes to swallow before setting hook. As far as I know most gar inside dfw are tainted.

Grapevine lake mouth of Denton Creek and mouth of Marshall Creek and the flats just in front of the creek mouths will be infested with big gar for the next few weeks. They do like them some perch or cut bait. Longnose are some bait steeling bastages. Be patient and let them swallow it good. Good x-strong treble hook but not too big. Regular old santee rig works good on bottom. Small cork just big enough to float the bait and little to no weight also works good. Gar fishing can be a hoot when you latch onto one of those 30 lb longnose or a big old gator gar. Fish the heaviest strongest line you can that will fish like light tackle. Them garfish are tricky sometimes. Gar will also follow schooling sandbass to clean up on the left overs too.

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

If you are looking to catch needle nose gar add a frayed out piece of nylon string or rope to it it gets tangled up in their teeth make it about 3 inches long after you do that you probably won't hook him you'll just be all tangled up in his teeth
