We just got our boat out of the shop and everything is good to go. The main lake we will be fishing is Ray Roberts. We are pretty new to this lake as well as fishing lakes in general. Any tips on fishing Ray Roberts right now for largemouth would be greatly appreciated! I really hope to hear some opinions.

Well glad to see this post. I was out last Wednesday and caught a few small ones on a deep diver by a hump up by wolf creek. the sandies were blowing up all around so if you have a top water tied on you can catch em. I'm not even close to being good as I've only been here for 6 months. Look forward to seeing some responses.

If you are new to Ray Roberts I would suggest that you stay in the lower half of the lake to start as the upper sections are loaded with timber and no real marked boat lanes. If you do venture up there be very very careful as a lot of unseen stumps are scattered about.
Shallow early and start moving out deeper as the heat climbs. I am not an expert whatsoever on this lake but fish it almost every weekend. I would start by looking at a good topo map and look for flats and cover close to deeper water. Time on the water is about the best teacher for anyone. Hire a good guide if you plan to fish Roberts a lot so that they can provide you with a good basis to do your own searching later. Dannie Golden (Get-Bit.com) is as good as they get on Roberts and he is a wonderful gentleman too boot. Good luck!

Saw on FB where he's having elbow surgery and will be out of commission for a while. On the map note I purchased an AID map and saw some brush piles on the main lake might try them out this weekend.

He won't be able to fish, but he told me that he will still be guiding once he gets past the basic surgery issues. I doubt he will be down long.

Thanks so much for the quick responses everyone! Definitely some good tips.Getting my lady out there next weekend for her birthday and hoping we can manage a few. Not expecting anything but would be fantastic to catch a couple.

Water temp last weekend was 88-89 where me and a buddy fished.

Bass in Ray Roberts like rocks! Moving baits, square bills, top waters, very early and then move to plastics fished slow when it gets hot. Green pumpkin and watermelon red are my best colors out there, others will have different opinions I am sure. The dam is an easy place to start bay paralleling it with a top water or crank bait as well as any of the other rocky main lake points on the lower end of the lake.

The sand bass are crazy right now from the main point between the two lake halves for a good long ways up the West half of the lake. Look for all the boats then start graphing the area and you will see why, huge bait balls and packs of sand bass chasing them. Those things can make for big fun on lite tackle especially for a kid.

Like others have said look at a map and be careful if you go up in the trees, you don't want more repairs after you just got the boat out of the shop. Lots of trees, old fence posts, and H braces that are hard on boats.

Wayyyy better. Look them up and you'll see, Martins Maps are super detailed.
