Staying with the in-laws in Dallas this weekend and I'm bringing my kayak. Does anybody know of a good spot in Dallas to kayak fish?

Casey, you might call Adrian over at Mariner Sails in Dallas and ask him where he and others prefer. I read about the various lakes close in to Dallas but he or the D/FW Facebook crowd could tell you where others will be this weekend. You might want to tag along with a group on a new lake.

Dallas proper or one of the burbs and what are you fishing for? That could help people with the suggestions.

If you're trying to stay inside Dallas try White Rock lake. I fish there after work during the week and usually do pretty well.

My in-laws live in north Dallas. I guess anywhere within 20 minute drive

I've been eyeballing White Rock on Google maps. I thinking of kayaking up White Rock Creek or maybe fish by the dam. your thoughts?

Grapevine is close by. A buddy of mine and I fish Lewisville quite a bit. We usually launch at Cottonwood Marina up in Little Elm and kill it. They allow kayaks over at Oak Point Park in Plano as of about a month ago.

Murrell Park on the north side is a free launch for kayaks.

Personally, I'd avoid going up White Rock Creek if your intent is to fish. The water is super hot, stagnant, and there will be more than handful of bank fisherman you'll have to avoid...not to mention all the trash as well. I enjoy the southern part of the lake myself. Access to the deepest water in WRL and also has the best sights (Dallas skyline, filter building and pump house, etc.).

I wish I saw your post before Saturday morning. I dropped my kayak on the north side think I'd work up the creek. Just like you said, it was bath water, with bank fisherman using live bait with multiple poles. I even paddled to some timber 150 yards out and the water was still 5 feet deep. the visibility was about 4 inches. I should've fished the spillway. After about 45 minutes, i realized this was stupid and grabbed breakfast. Next time I guess.

Certain parts of the creek are better than others. The creek is actually pretty good in the spring. Sorry you didn't have much luck.

Is the bass fishing good in that area? I've fished a few times on the other side of the lake at the Vineyards Campground/Katie's woods are and haven't caught too many.

Multiple coves are accessible in the area but I never fish for LMB. There are usually boats inside the coves working the shores.

I usually just go for the sand bass on the shelves just off the shore.
