I purchased a Shimano 1000 series Nasci the other day. I ended up with no dedicated reel for my 6'9" St. Croix UL rod and I thought this might work as a good match.
I'm taking it out in a few minutes, around 7PM, beat the heat a bit, and give it a go.
I used some old fluorocarbon as backer line and to take up some space on the reel spool, then spooled on Sufix Nanobraid in 4 lbs. test as my mainline. I won't use a leader for this braid. As many of you may recall, I have had great luck with the 2 lbs. test in this line. I just thought I'd give 4 lbs. a try for a comparison. I'm up to a 4 lbs. LMB caught while panfishing . . . you know how it goes: catch a bunch of bluegills and sometimes more LMBs, inadvertently, than the guys in boats with bass gear. Bass love tiny baits.
The Nasci looks very well made. It is heavier than a Ci4+, for sure, but at around $99, if I can't make out any substantial difference between the two, I might go this route in the future for another reel.
So, if 2 lbs. braid = 4 lbs. bass, then 4 lbs. braid =
I should be so lucky! Ha!

Interested in seeing how you like the reel, I'm shopping for a couple of ultralight/light reels myself.

It felt great . . . I went out just behind my home. I fished and paddled the canoe, back seat, letting Reagan throw around one of the new Teckler frogs, so I just made casts sort of intermittently. I caught 4 or so bluegills on just a few casts.
Well, I totally agree one can go over-board very quickly with gear, dollar-wise, and just pick up a tiny bit of extra functionality/less weight, etc. A tiny edge.
I'd say this reel, at $99, gets one almost all of the higher-end technology from Shimano without going up into the nose-bleed $200+ range.
Very well made . . . if it lasts 2X as long, then it'd truly become a great value.
Nice reel!

Amazon has them for $85 shipped. I'm going to try one of these on my next reel. Thanks for the heads up. !

I really like Shimano gears but their spinning reels don't fit my hand. The bail constantly hits my knuckles. Love my Curados and Citicas though.
