Does anyone build their own rod or do you just spend the money and get one? Seems interesting but is it worth it?

I got a custom made rod by a lady near the port, I love it! It will cost more but to be its well worth it. The rod weight action etc. is perfect for what i use it for. I wish I had the time and money to make my own rods.

I've thought about learning to make them for fun and checked into it a bit. What I did see is that there is a learning curve to it naturally so the first few that you make won't be that good plus you need to gain the knowledge of what blanks and components to use to have the rod work as you d want it to. If you are doing it to save money and have a nicer rod then I think that you'll spend more in the long run than just buying a few good rods. I may still get into it later just as a hobby.
