Well I saw this kind of new item and wanted to see what the heck right? I got one and have been looking at it for a little while now and decided to give my first thought a shot to see how it looked. What I wanted to do was use one feather to make the tail and then wrap the rest of the feather to make the body all the way to the head. Anyway I am not particularly proud of this sample, but it was my fist, lol! Anyway want to see what you guys think of the idea and maybe you have more ideas for this kind of feather? Also know the picture and the feather are the same one, just photos taken at different time and different settings, but still only one I have used so far. Interesting Skip. Is this soft hackle hard to use? Is it avail in other colors?
Using the site for a while...this is really great to share fishing ideas and success with others.

Yes it can be bought in other colors and some sizes of Soft Hackle can be bought in bags, but this is a little different that this Hackle has the Marabou on it too and enough of it to use like this anyway. I have a lot of Soft Hackle that I have bought in bags and lots on the skin too. Most hen Hackle is Soft Hackle, just doesn't have all this. This particular one comes on a patch or skin. I only have the one that I wanted to try out and see what I could see. These come in Brown, Chart, Hot Orange, Natural Grizzly, Olive, Tan and Yellow. I may go back and get a few others, but not sure yet. Oh and it is a large patch! This one is 12" X 11 1/2".

Would love to watch you tie with that. Looks great. Thanks! You just pull the barbules apart starting about where you want to tie the tip in. Then once you have it like you want it, lift up the rest of the feather and warp your thread to the head and leave hanging. Then just hold the feather and adjusting as you wrap it to the head. You just make sure the rest of the marabou is pointing the right direction. Once you reach the head, trap it and wrap a good and then whip finish. Really nothing to it. You could also use some metal wire to over wrap it to help keep the stem from unwrapping if cut. Skip I did this with more really and used one of the little mini marabou and tied a 1/32 Oz Roadrunner with it pretty much this same way. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/attachmen...ou-dsc09121-jpgSkip
