I just went thru this at the Grapevine store. My Cranking Stick had the tip eye come off. Factory defect. They said that the new policy is 30 days with out receipt and 60 with a receipt. They are doing away with the great replacement policy because they want to sell the extended warranty. It total BS that all these company's want to make more and more money with less service. I for one will only buy rods from Academy. They are the best at standing behind rods. Just my 2 cents.

What is total BS is that people want to buy something like a rod once, set hooks into rocks and trees that they claim are fish, or step on them, break the rod and expect the stores and manufactures to pay for it. If it truly is a manufacturing defect then it should be covered but if you break it doing stuff fisherman do, then you should buy a new rod.
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Maybe they're doing away with the great replacement policy because people have abused it. Repeatedly.

The quote below is a perfect example of abusing the return policy... yall don't get mad at Bass Pro, get mad at the people that always ruin a good thing. Why should BPS pay for something that was "completely" the fault of the angler and has nothing to do with manufacturing issues. I broke a guide off one of my Carbon Lite's a few months ago (completely my fault) and they traded it for a new one no questions asked.

Yeah......this string is getting away from us....My intention is not to "burn" BPS. The rod has a "one year" defect warranty. It's 6 mos old. Tip broke 6" Down from end on hookset. Hell, it shouldn't do that, right?
I've spent enough dough with BPS to at least explore my options.
But thanks for all the advice.

But thanks for all the advice. NOT slamming you but, Had a $300 rod do this last fall. It's still leaning in the corner of my garage, rod was a month old and hadn't been fished very much at all. The odds are high that it had been tweaked from being put in a rod box, stepped on or otherwise stressed. Sucks but after using fishing all my life, I have found that very rarely does a rod "just break". I have several other rods from the same company and they have performed flawlessly, I'm gonna go with it was my fault, regardless of how much dough I've spent with that company.

I worked at the customer service counter in Grapevine for 4 years. They are very lenient on their return policy. I remember handing out credit for BPS rods that were 5-6 years old (we could only give them a few dollars for rods that old, but still). At that time, there were some manufacturers that stopped giving stores credit for broken rods that were returned. For instance, Shimano stopped issuing the store credit for broken G Loomis rods that we took back. The only explanation that I ever heard was that they wanted to deal with their customers directly. My interpretation of this was that they wanted to talk their customers into a Shimano brand name. Back to the OP, you shouldn't have any problems replacing a BPS rod after 6 months. The only thing that I can think of is if they no longer make the same rod and you have to trade for something different. Bass Pro Shops return policy

never had a problem with BPS returns, they've always been more than reasonable IMO.
Also more than reasonable - Falcon rods. I broke a cara last month, 100% my fault, but they offer an $80 replacement program for non-defective situations- that's a helluva deal if you ask me. Brand new replacement stick for $80. Falcon gets some revenue out of it, enough to cover cost i am sure, plus they get customers who rave about their service and buy more rods from them.
