Heading down to Galveston soon. What is the best method to select a surf location in which to fish? Are there fish all along the surf or has your experience been that one must look for certain features for the location to be productive? Thanks in advance.

I always look for the cleanest water, last weekend the water was cleaner on the West side of the pass compared to the east. There are a few Trout in the surf, but you gotta get there early.

I always look for something a little different like spots where the beach is shell instead of sand. Maybe where the waves coming in break a little different or don't break at all.

Learn to read the surf and find the seams between where the waves break differently between shallow areas and holes, the fish always look for structure and will hold in those transition areas!

Watch for pelicans diving or sitting on the beach. They will tell you where the bait is. Also I like to target areas where there is shell on the beach as the guts tend to be deeper.

If you ever see birds circling and/or diving within about 300 yards of the shore, that is your spot. Run out there as soon as you can. Cast into the edge of them, but not necessarily right in the middle. You don't want to disrupt the bait ball and feeding frenzy that is going on there.

I tried wade fishing for my first time last Friday in the afternoon, I had no idea how this worked since I had never stepped foot into Texas surf before.

I drove to Freeport and went in between the first and 2nd sign, saw some people out there that looked like they knew what they were doing.

about 80' out it rose a little and I assume that was the first sandbar, went out like another 100' and felt what I figure was the 2nd sandbar, I couldn't tell if there were any definite "breaks" in the 2nd sandbar , but the breakers at times would almost knock me off my feet, it didn't seem to get deeper as I walked further out.

I was using live croaker and never got a strike, and the guy near me had live shrimp and only caught rays and small sharks .

I booke a trip with Captain Nathan Beabout for next Friday morning out of Seadrift, this should be great.!!,........................
