Chris, I learned a lot yesterday from chasing those alligator gar down on a fishery. Thanks for the post and getting me all wound up. The alligator gar won but I had a blast!!! This lake thing is going to be much harder than tracking those sonovaguns down on a river but it can be done!!! I needed one more day... Lol!!! But anyways Good Luck out there pardner and P.S. There are tons of long nose gar. I am not saying there isn't but I haven't personally seen an alligator gar in Lewisville. I will send you a few gar hot spots. Th best time is to go at night on a full or almost full moon.

If you want to travel I know a creek that feeds into lake pat that is teeming with them

O.P. , here's another set-up with carp heads I use for targeting big blues in cooler weather.
Good for a 10/0 circle thru the nostril and out the top of the cranium.
Hook stays locked in place real well.
Heck, might even work for gar.....I'm not really looking for them though so not certain .
You'd have to use a steel leader with it I guess.

Dave, I've never seen a carp head hooked like that. That's bad to the bone pardner and I can think of a many a times I could have used that hookup style for blues and gar!!!!! Thats a heck of a tip man I appreciate it... Good stuff right there... Prime...

Took awhile trying to figure out how to hook up those carp/buffalo heads without burying the hook.
That way definitely gives good hook exposure. Just have to be careful that you don't crack/crush skull when pushing hook
thru.
It's usually the slow bait of the day. Sits out there doing nothing but if it gets picked up for a run it's usually a good one!
