I just returned to TX from my native CO. I go back once a year to see family and take care of a piece of property I own. I also go to a couple of my favorite trout spots. This year the fishing was great. Here is a view of the back yard of the property I own:

When I go back home trout fishing I always begin on my favorite stream. It isn't real big but it holds a lot of good brook trout.

This was the first brookie of the year:

My mother always likes a mess of brookies for the frying pan so I kept these for her. They run from about 6 inches to 11 inches.

After I catch a bunch of brookies from the creek I always head to a nearby lake that is always good to me. This lake has brookies, browns, rainbows, cutthroats and lakers in it and it is a consistent producer of good fish.

I believe this is one of the prettiest rainbows I have ever taken. It was about 17 inches long and probably weighed right around 2 lbs. This fish was released to fight another day.

I got quite a few browns running from about 10 inches long and up. The browns in the lake are good looking fish.

The good thing about this lake is that every once in a while it decides to kick out a really good fish. This brown was a little over 24 inches long and I'm guessing it was a little over 6 lbs. This fish broke my ultra-light rod and it was released after being photographed.

I kept a rough count. I took about 35 brookies, 16 browns, 6 rainbows and 2 cutthroats (for some reason I didn't get photos of the cutts) and with the exception of the brookies in the photo all fish were released. All the fish were taken on 00 silver MEPPS spinners or kastmasters in silver and gold. It was good to get back home.

Cheers.

Great post, Flags!

I have to tell you, it hurts a bit to see these pics in the hot July weather down here.

One of my favorite trips was one I took in 1973 to Gunnison National Forest where we fished for trout (caught tons of them) in what they called "pot holes." It seems there were several of them near a stream running through the park, we fished it too, and each pot hole (like a small stock tank) had a number, so "Pot Hole #4" like that.

My car died at the top of the Continental Divide on the way there . . . we looked down into the valley and said, what the heck and just rolled all the way down. Then, the car started up again. Cool!

Very nice! I love those little Brookies fried up crisp. I'm headed up there in a couple weeks to fish some little streams and cool my heals in some mountain water. Thanks for the eye candy! Congrats on a successful trip!

Anywhere you can go trout fishing in Co that's relatively uncrowded?

Lots of places. I have never seen another angler at my favorite brookie stream. As a matter of fact I have never even seen another set of footprints there. And that stream is less than 100 yards from a county highway. The lake I fish rarely has amny people there except for holiday weekends. Look around and you'll find lots of uncrowded fishing in CO.
