I purchased a Kenner 19vx CC a few months back and have fished it about a dozen times.

Currently has Lowrance 522c igps on CC with transom transducer,

I like the 522c, gives decent sonar view with good chart capability and will keep it on the boat.

I need some opinions on what new unit should be and whether I should just add new unit to bow, or move 522c to bow and place new on CC?

I don't have a set budget but was looking to spend in the $500-$700 range. Trolling motor is a 80lb Riptide with tiller control so I don't need interface capable unit. I've always fished with Lowrance but not "married" to the brand.

Anybody got an opinion?......thanks for any suggestions

Kinda depends on what kind of fishing you do mostly. I crappie fish so finding, and staying on structure is important to me.

Do you want sidescan capabilities? If you do - it will greatly improve your ability to find new areas to fish.

A used Gen 2 HDS unit could work for you, or a new one - at the console. Move your 522 to the bow and rassle with the sonar transducer cable on the trolling motor.

2cents

Thanks,

That was my general plan (new on console and move the 522) but I am hesitant only because the bow is the unit that I will use when I am fishing. I haven't used a "sidescan" so I am not sure how much use/need I would get from it (i understand it can really help around bridge pilings and trees but generally when I fish trees, I am picking my way thru with trolling motor (sitting in the front).

I fish multi-species......Crappie, Whites/Hybrids/Striper, Bass, and Cats. It just kinda depends on the mood I am in, the need for "meat on the table", or what the fish are doing at different times of year.

.

I think your instinct to focus on the bow unit is good. Like you said, that's where you fish from.

One technology I would recommend becoming familiar with is the Humminbird 360. Many
fishermen are installing these units at the bow. It is deadly.

There is tons of info about them on the net. This search link on YouTube will get you
started if you are interested --

Thanks.... I watched the video very interesting....looks like the technology would be a good fit for the front trolling detail.

That blue gill you are holding is the largest I have ever seen! AWESOME!

Good luck with your search but I love the giant red ear.
