When we got our tax return back, the wife let me buy some more fly fishing gear. I was going to buy a 7 wt Orvis Recon outfit, but figured I could get a 4 wt Echo Carbon XL and a 7 wt Echo Ion with Lamson Liquid reels for a little less. I've been fishing the 7 wt quite a bit hoping to catch a really big bass, but the best I could do was a couple of 16" fish. I took the 4 wt out this morning. I caught these bass and some small bluegills on a #8 red and white popper. Once the sun came up I switched to a #8 chartreuse/white closer and Cath this bluegill, a small bass, and some smaller bluegills. The bass were really fun on the 4 wt.

Good job on the 4 weight always more fun on a lighter rod.

Great stuff!!!! My 4 weight is by far my favorite rod. Looks like a nice setup.

You'll fish ten times more with the four weight than you will the seven weight, I'll bet. Good decision. Some pretty fish you hit there.

Thanks Linecaster. Most of the ponds I fish the bass are mostly of a size where a 4 wt is plenty of rod.

Thanks Ron. Are you getting any chances to fish out your way?

Thanks J-Moe. Echo rods are made in China, but Tim Rajeff makes a pretty good product and they are pretty inexpensive.

I can't cast the 4 wt as far as the 7, but most of the places I fish the fish are mostly close to the bank anyway so I will be fishing the 4 quite a bit Capt. Mac.
