Alan Henry can be such a PAIN... I know that every once in a while people catch a random DD but man this lake sucks. I can never get on a consistent bite and catching a fish over 1/2 a pound is a chore! I've had days of 20-30 fish out there but it only happens in the spring. Do I just suck or do other people who fish this lake have this issue?

I guess I have been lucky last year and this year. Seems like I catch an over about every other trip down there on our working man's T. A month ago, I caught a 6.47 lb LMB. Partner had 2 overs for 5.57, all cam eoff the smae point and roadbed. BTW, the big fish came on a wacky rigged senko bait thrown in less than 5' of water. Last year in the fall, I pulled up 3 overs fishing off the point by the launch ramp by fishing drop shots. I have won 3 T's last year and 2 T's this year at the working man's T, so I guess I better consider myself lucky, huh. Come on out and fish with us and maybe I can show you some areas you haven't looked at. OR, if interested, I have DVDs of the lake at 25' on 11/27/97 that I am selling for $50. It shows what the lake looked like at 25' maximum depth. LOTS of stuff under the water now that cannot be seen, just so you know. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I caught quite a few overs out there this spring too. But since it has gotten hot it's been impossible for me.
I threw everything at em today. Someone caught a 9.8 on a jig yesterday. I threw a jig for hours. Threw a T-rigged senko and a swimbait as well. Those always produce in the spring.

I caught the 6.47 when it was 105 degrees. So, yeah, it does get tougher sometimes in the summer, but good fish ae still being caught, you just have to hit them in the head with your bait, more often than not. Tight lines keep safe and good luck.

I just need to figure out how to gain my confidence out there... I've been searching high and low for reading material to do just that on LAH.

I wrote an article earlier this year about gaining confidence in yourself, not your baits. TUFF to do, but it sure makes a BIG difference in my fishing and catching. PM me if you want me to send the article to you. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I just need to figure out how to gain my confidence out there... I've been searching high and low for reading material to do just that on LAH. I've lived in this area my whole life and I fished it a ton in college and these past two years have been fishing it a lot more again. These fish are weird. They get more tight-lipped than any lake I know.

My great uncle used to own Gobbler Creek and I road horses and pickups all over the place down there. His name was Bandy Cash, Clide's dad and Norm Cash's dad. One of the tanks on Gobbler, my great aunt caught a 10 lb native LMB in about a 2 acre stock pond that is now underwater, in 1969. So YEAH I have a LOT of fond memories of picking wild plums, shooting coyotes and having fun out in the country down there from the early 60's. My dad was hiring a pilot to fly the lake before they started impounding it, but he went down with Gilliam Bare' and that plan fell thru, as he was paralyzed for 6 months. But, yeah, I know where 10 tank dams and 28 springs are located on that little lake and sometimes, they have a book of their own and no one has found it yet. Good luck next time you go out. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I fished from 6 - 12 yesterday morning. Longest fish was just under 18" and might have weighed a lb. Caught it on a dropshot in 47' of water.
Caught another on a mag fluke in ~30-35'.
Then caught 3 at a ledge that dropped off from 20-30' on a texas rig.
they were hitting it as it was falling along ledge.
Every single fish was extremely skinny. Most of the fish i have been catching have been in poor shape.
This lake has flat out kicked my butt this year. Only the 2nd time all year that Ive caught 5 fish in 1 outing.
I have however pretty much abandoned everything I used to do that produced lots of small fish.
I have more confidence that I will catch a big fish deep than I will shallow, especially right now.
So other than topwaters at dusk/dawn Ive been pretty much throwing big baits deep.

Then caught 3 at a ledge that dropped off from 20-30' on a texas rig. This is what I have problems with. I will get off the bank and try to fish some deeper water. Heck I did for about 4 hours yesterday. But I just can not seem to get a bite deep at Alan Henry. I have no confidence fishing deeper than 20' of water. What size weight do you use? I think that is my issue. I rarely throw a t-rig with more than a 3/16 ounce weight. I fished a tournament once a long time ago and watched my partner catch like 20 fish that day while I caught 3. He put 21 lbs in the boat by himself and we were fishing the exact same baits. The difference was I fished a 3/8 ounce weight and he fished a 3/16 ounce weight. To this day I have no confidence fishing with a heavier weight at Alan Henry. They almost always bite on the fall.

I was using a 1/4 oz weight on the Texas Rigs. I will only throw 3/8 oz if the wind forces me to.
I would not get bit on the top of the ledge, and I would not get bit after bait reached the bottom. All of my bites were on the fall.
Have to strip a bunch of line to get it to fall as close to the ledge as possible. I caught a bunch of good fish like this last year, but until this weekend, I have not gotten them to bite like that this year.
Never got a bite with 3/8 oz T-Rig, or a 1/2 oz jig at the same spot.

It's not just you, RJF. Alan Henry sucks. And I loved paying $20 to launch at the only lake within a million miles of Lubbock while I was there.
It has its good days, and it has a few very large fish; I caught one over 9 lbs out of it. But most of the time it's miserable to fish.
