When I am jigging in deep water. And I am using smaller jigs. When there is any current. My jig does not stay vertical. it wants to go with the current. I am using 14 lbs Fireline with a 6 lbs diameter. What can I do to keep my jig vertical? I know I should know but I don't.

Might I also suggest trying Power Pro Super Slick Braid in 20# Aqua Green. Use Berkeley Vanish Flourocarbon in 8# Clear Gold for a leader. Attach your leader to the braid just like in this video clip. Except make sure you wet the Flourocarbon with some saliva before you cinch it and I go through 3 times and in the video he only goes through twice. He's using fly line, but one end is my braid and the other my Flourocarbon. I tie the same knot but I go through 3 times and I wet the line before the cinch. I take out about 36 inches of leader and attach it to my braid because I fish with 2-6 jigs at a time. I only use the clam shot weights when I'm fishing 1 Jig. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIsD5-W6pFE&index=18&list=FLLKxX_pUYMRPXxfrr_jjPzA&t=8sOnce you try the above you will be Hooked right along with all them slabs. If you have any questions feel free to call me at 214-264-3232 or PM me. Tight Lines!

A heavier jig is the simple solution. If you think the smaller, lighter jig is getting more bites, use a double rig. I use those a lot in the heat of the summer when the bite is slow. Try 1/8oz on bottom and 1/16oz about 18" up on a loop knot. That works for me in most winds, but any combo will work: 1/16 & 1/16, 1/8/ & 1/16, 1/8 & 1/8, 1/4 & 1/16, etc. You can manage just about any wind or current with the right combo. Switching to mono will help too. The braid drags pretty bad.

Jet use a Split Shot 12 " above the jig & If you are fishing a bridge pylon/piller and there is some current present ,always fish on the back side or the slack side where the pylon/pillars can act as a current braker.Crappie don`t really like to buck current but they will use it to their advantage to ambush if they can sheild themselves from it.You also want to present your jig on the shady side of those JP pylon/pillars lol.I know you use only one but I like to use two jigs a ft apart just to increase my chances. Sometimes the bigger Crappie will hold up on the pylon/pillars closest to the Mountain Creek Flats & Walnut Creek creek channels.tip: find the Creek channels under the bridges @ JP

maybe it was just the night we chose but all the big ones came off the pillars in the middle where water was deeper not the outside pillars.
