Anybody been out in one for a good amount of time during a typical Texas wind? Wondering how they ride, get blown around (may buy spot lock for it) and how comfortable/functional of a rig they are?

If you can't find em wind em.

I bought a 198 in January after owning a 518. Same basic layout. I don't notice significant difference in ride, performance, or wind pushing the boat around. In fact the ride was smoother. I do notice the extra room. I'm sure the 188 will do a great job for you. I've been to Livingston and Conroe in 20 MPH wind and was very pleased, especially after hearing doom and gloom thoughts. Take a test ride and make the call. See you out there.

Do you fish open water with it? I know I wouldn't have a problem with it in shallow water but if I'm out deep fishing brush piles or cranking I don't want to get wrecked out there because the wind's picked up and the boat is thrashing around...

I only fish open water 10-30'. I point the boat into the wind to fish a way point and use a marker buoy so that I don'the have to keep looking down at the Lowrance. The trolling motor blades stay down in the water and I don't feel like I'm about to be thrown overboard. I live next to Fayette, your welcome to take a ride anytime.

Very generous of you, thank you! I'm about 4 hours north of you but wouldn't mind a trip down at all to be honest!
