It was less than 20 miles or so from the coast. It could happen.

I saw a 4' shark at a ramp in Canyon lake. Really irritates me that some one can take from a resource and then just throw it away.

Bull Sharks will migrate into freshwater.

Few years ago some guys caught a Bull Shark in St. Louis on the Mississippi. As stated above, Bull Sharks can live and travel in freshwater for a long time. I know in Australia or Africa, I believe, it is common for shark attacks several miles up river by bull sharks. Several documentaries on the subject. Article said it was obviously dumped there due to tire tracks and drag marks.

Bull sharks travel up any river that feeds into ocean. Watch shark week. They show a diagram where they've been caught or spotted all over inland US. No not lake Lewisville. Also seems like an episode of River Monsters talked about it.

Just give it a few days and some guy that has been fishing for 3 months will upload a YouTube video on proper tackle selection and the "ultimate technique" for catching inland sharks. That will settle this for sure.

Sharks In Illinois

The Atlas of North American Freshwater Fishes describes the bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) as an aggressive shark that reaches 10 feet in length and has been known to attack man. Its range extends as far up the Mississippi River as Alton, Illinois.

According to the Illinois Department of Conservation, two commercial fishermen from Alton, Herbert Cope and Dudge Collins, caught a bull shark in 1937. They found something troubling their wood and mesh traps late that summer. Concluding that it was a fish, they built a strong wire trap and baited it with chicken guts.

The next morning, they caught a 5-foot 84-pound shark, which they displayed in the Calhoun Fish Market where it attracted crowds for days. Although some folks suspected a hoax, the catch was considered authentic. Biologists later concluded from photos that it was a bull shark. Recently, Clint Smith of Alton supplied an old photo of the catch, with the present-day ADM flourmill in the background.

Bull sharks can live a long time in freshwater. In 1972, one was caught 2,500 miles up the Amazon. The journey from New Orleans to Alton is about 1,750 miles. Dams now prevent sharks from entering Illinois. Sharks in Illinois? Not anymore.

Yep, been documented on several different shows that Bull Sharks have traveled several hundred miles up rivers that feed the ocean. Even the Mississippi has had some pretty far up.
