For the most part there isn't that many hazards, if heading up the river, stay in the channel

Very easy lake to run especially at this level. Heard fishing has gotten tuff in the last few weeks.

Watch for falling rocks. (As well as cliffs and houses).

I have been wondering the same thing around the island near the dam. I have been at Whitney a couple of times this year. I usually come out of the cove where Uncle Gus Marina is. I tend to take the long route around the island to the river channel. However, coming out of the cove and going north, my navionics map shows flooded timber all in the area between the island and the West shore. I went through that area half way between the shore and the island once (deepest part) but did not see any timber on my electronics. I was wondering if anyone knew of timber to watch for in that area or is it safe to run on plane.

One thing I can tell you from fishing many years on Whitney especially when my parents had a place there is that the coves you are coming out of and the one's around it usually have some pretty good fishing on all of the little points in them. Pop R fishing can be fun and some small spinnerbaits or the little H & H spinners catch a lot of fish of different varieties. If you are wanting to fish specifically for bass I have done good on some large crankbaits in those same area's to sometimes catch bigger largemouth.

And don't watch your depth finder or it will scare you lol.

Great information, I have only been on that lake once and that was with a guide. I thought of taking the wife and see if we can catch some stripers. HAs anyone had any luck catching them this time of the year or will I be wasting my time?

What about the main lake between katy bridge and steele creek park? The reason I ask we rented a pontoon a month ago and they said not go north of katy bridge. It was hazardous north of the bridge. Is this right or is the main lake safe to run south of steele creek? The maps I have do not show any hazards in that stretch of the main lake including the flats on the inside of the river bends.

Stay in the river channel and you can run as far north as you want.
