The deck boat that was hit in that accident had no lights on. A very close friend of mine was driving the Skeeter that hit them. He was running planing speed only and not staring at his graph. It was a terrible tragedy that all involved will have to live with forever. No drugs or alcohol were involved and, after a long investigation with all the facts presented to a Grand Jury, there were no charges filed. In other words, my friend was not at fault for the accident.

I wasn't try to offend or lay blame, perhaps a poor choice of words with "blindly". I was using it in reference to not being able to see the "intersection" due to all of the houses and shore. It's almost just as tough during the day.

I didn't think you were. Just trying to clarify the details of that accident. The one last night happened 300 yards from the accident you are referring to and I agree, the shoreline lighting in that area makes it very difficult to see a boat at night, even with their anchor light on.

What a tragedy, prayers for the family and friends.angel2

I'm wondering when an outboard manufacture will provide built in LEDs on the upper part of the mid section, both sides and the back. Some stand out color like bright green that can be seen by boats coming from the rear or the side. Something that distinguishes it from a dock light on the shore, and is low enough to the water to remove any doubt that the light is from a boat. I had heard Evinrude was looking into it. Sure seems like a cheap add on that could save lives.

Conroe is flat out dangerous at night or daytime. I fish that lake every year in March. Your head has to be on a swivel and your passenger
needs to be on alert. This is the 2 or 3rd fatality this year, that I have read about.

I use spot light and do not travel WOT during darkness. Sad that this happened for a few dollars.

Prayers for all involved.

Why are so many people blaming this on the fact he was in a tourny. That may have had nothing to do with it.

This really hits home now as I just found out via Facebook that's its a friend of mine who died. His wife is in critical condition. The family is from Magnolia.

Because it was stated they were headed to weigh-in and hit the anchored boat.

13 reported they were both running. Super good guy. Prayers for him and his family. At least he was fishing on the day of.

Reality is this could have been any of us. I do not doubt how hard it is to tell what is out there at night. The lights play tricks on u.

So he was headed to weigh in. That doesn't mean he wouldn't have hit them if he wasn't in a t. Comments like" not worth a few dollars" make no sense. The fact he was in a t and headed to weigh in have nothing to do with it.

I had to jump off the deck and hit an oncoming boat with my spotlight on Cypress Springs last year. He was headed directly at us. Of course he was in a big pleasure boat, blasting music at 1 a.m., and probably drunk. The spotlight got his attention and he came off plane long enough to go around us.

I don't get all the bashing it a terrible thing but where they were heading or going has nothing to do with it .

Bashing won't solve anything.

In my opinion one way to prevent these recurring accidents in the same area would be to have boat lanes in that area. I launch out of Diamond Head all the time and at times its like trying to cross a busy street coming from the ramp with traffic coming from both directions. The shore is about 6 ft above the water and with houses so close together its tough to see in either direction even during the day. Because of all of the marinas and restaurants that are just around the southwestern bend of Diamond Head, most boaters take the shortest route which is closest to shore. If there was a mandatory lane that took traffic further out into the open lake, perhaps that would help. As it is now, coming around that bend you only have seconds to determine if there's clear path.

surprised no one has mentioned it but safest thing you can do is not go out on that lake after dark....

it might be time to change the color of the anchor light , maybe a brilliant yellow or a flor green or strobe. if that's the case the white ones blending with shore line lights.
