Alright guys, as we all know fishing is good luck one day and bad luck the other. This time it was an awful lot of the last one. Here's a video so everyone watching will be able to laugh at my own expense....

Looks like a good spot to test your equipment! Tell me a little about the rod, reel and line you were using? Seemed to be holding up well!

That setup has been around for quite some time! The Rod is a St.Croix Avid M/H 8 foot something. The reel is the old version of the Daiwa Certate 3500HD, the blue one. Fantastic reel, have caught just about every fish on it (including dogtooth tuna and GTs). The roller bearing has given in which is the noise you can hear when I'm reeling in but that is the only component that has given in in the 11 years I've owned it!
