Hey guys so as luck would have it, the day my wife and I closed on our first house my transmission started acting up. Well now two weeks later it is completely shot and I was told it will have to be rebuilt/replaced. I got a quote for about 5400 to have it replaced as well as replacing the motor mounts which are also broken. Does this sound like a reasonable price or is it on the higher end? I thought it seemed a bit high but before I waste anymore time shopping around I figured I'd ask on here. If anyone has any experience with this and can recommend what the cheapest route would be or can recommend a reliable and reasonable mechanic in the Conroe/Houston area I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

P.S. the truck is a 2011 Z71 Silverado 1500 4X4

Seems high to me, but it's been a while since I've had one worked on. I'd make a few phone calls and check around.

Yours is probably the 6L80E trans. They are a little pricey! I think my transmission shop here in Tyler gets around $3500-$4000 for one. I know the front pumps are expensive which drives the price up! You should be able to find someone a little cheaper that does a good job!

At a GM dealer in DFW for a 6L80 it would run you about $4000 installed and would come with a 3 year 100k mile warranty. That's a manufacture rebuilt transmission so if any issues the labor and parts are covered at any GM dealer across the country.

$5400 is high unless it's a brand new transmission or something like that.

How many miles do you have on the truck? Just curious. Those transmissions usually hold up pretty good.

You have an incredibly common transmission, many vehicles were produced that use it. You may have a good shot of finding a low mileage used one at a salvage yard. With a little work you could put it in yourself.

I would bet it is not the same transmission. In 2003 I bet yours is a 4speed and his being a 2011 is a 6 speed.

I'm sure it's not the same. I got my 05 done at 315,000 miles for $1,300 at a good shop with a warranty. Those new six speeds are high dollar.

PM beermill. He owns a transmission shop and could probably steer you in the right direction or give you good advice on price. Great guy!

Why I'll never own anything with more than a 4spd auto trans. Those new 6+ speed trannys are stupid expensive to work on. Might as well throw the vehicle away and buy a new one, that's what the manufacturers want anyway, to keep us in payments for ever.

I just rebuilt mine this spring by myself. Cost about $90 and I was done in 4 hours, piddling and drinking the whole time. It's a 3 speed though. Mates up to a 305 V6. cyclop

If I was you and i was going to spend that kinda money, I'd just go with the GM rebuild and get that dealership warranty.
