I guess Texas doesn't have the best places to fish if MLF is the indicator- Aaron Martens caught almost as many pounds of fish in one day on MLF in Minnesota as 2 days total on lake Nacogdoches. Nowhere MLF has fished produced like Grand Rapids, Minnesota for totals pounds caught and it was not just the top man - several caught a lot of pounds in one day Dink fest and having to hear Ike say it's a giant every time he sets the hook, no thanks.

Beautiful fishery in Minnesota, but that does not take anything away from Texas lakes. There is no need for Texas to take a backseat to anyone. Size alone would seal the deal for me. Plus, fishing is available 365 days a year in Texas. Probably half that on the frozen tundra.

To cold in MN to hot in TX.
Maybe retire and fish 3-4 months in each state and roam between the other months...

If you like catching one pound fish all day. How many 5-10 pound fish have MN lakes produced versus TX lakes? I rest my case. It took a 5 pound average to win the BASS event up there last season. I doubt you have ever caught a 5 pound smallie in tx. Plus the chance to target 50" musky and no crackheads to steal your gear at the ramp, sounds like heaven to me.

There are plenty of 5lb smallmouth in Texas lakes.

You can yeah ok all you want from Colorado but it is true. Texoma, Meredith, Bridgeport, and Grapevine all have them. Leaving some lakes off as well. State record is over 7lbs.

They have 50" muskies we have 200 lb alligator gar. I know which one I'd rather catch. Never seen a crackhead at a ramp, not sure where you're fishing to find those...

I've caught a 5 lb smallie in Texas... of the 15-20 folks I call fishing buddies more than 50% have also.
Having said that, all of you Yankees go ahead and stay up north! Texas lakes suck and there is no reason to bring your "snowbird" self down here... of course with all the attention MN is getting now it wont be long till their lakes are beat to death, they can get a taste of what BASS has done to our best fisheries over and over again. Ooofta.

Being loyal to your state is nice but the point that a 5lb smallie is way more likely in our northern states is a "duh"! Fished Minnesota......and YES a 5lb+ smallmouth is way more likely there than here in my beloved Texas. A 5lb+ smallie in Texas happens but rarely. 5lb+ largemouth? Another "duh".....Texas! But that was not the point. I agree though that it's always amazing how heavy the stringers often are from northern lakes by the pros.

Maybe retire and fish 3-4 months in each state and roam between the other months... Sounds like a great plan. I would love to be able to fish on 75 degree afternoons in the summer, as opposed to during the spring or fall when the wind is blowing 15-30 mph. The only times the weather is calm here are when it's either 30 degrees or 105.
