If this is the wrong forum, please move.

When selling a boat, motor and trailer in Texas.
Do you have to have a title to all three to complete the sale.??

Thanks

Trailers usually don't have a title, registration only. Need titles for boat and motor....

The boat, motor and trailer I recently sold in Texas were sold with titles.

Title isn't necessary for a trailer. Our new(2003) boat trailer had a title, our old one didn't (1994).
You need a title for the boat and a title for the motor if it is an outboard. If it is an inboard/outboard, there won't be a title for the engine only for the boat as it is all inclusive.

KyleW hit it on the head. Boat and motor necessary. Trailer not. My 95 trailer doesn't have one. Newer ones tend to though.

I just moved to Texas and brought a boat and trailer. Had to change the title to Texas on both to be able to register them and get plates for the trailer. Also bought a 6x12 utility trailer. The dealer said it was standard procedure for him to have the title issued.

That dealer is having a title issued so he can make a few extra bucks off you for the paper work.

"If your manufactured trailer's gross weight exceeds 4,000 lbs., it must be titled." Under 4,000 it does not need to have a title but you can have one issued for a fee if it makes you feel good.

Title

Been there, done that a few times.

The cnty tax office will still issue plate tags without a title? I'm asking because I don't know, all flatbed and boat trailers I've ever owned have had titles...
