So I'm new to the Austin area, I'm over in the east side, I'm curious about some good places to go catch some good size catfish around here. I've been to the Colorado, east side of dam, seems to be more shallow and flowing fast. I want some deep holes! Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!!

Hey man, I live near Austin-- I fish mainly Granger lake about 40-50 mins from you-- but I haven't really fished for cats IN Austin itself.. I've gone to Walter E Long(Decker) lake 3-4 times and have done ok once with like 8 cats in 2 hours--

Fished Granger a few times with one of the locals, Big Zee, and still didn't do that great. The ones we caught were pretty poor looking. Granger has had a lot of fishing pressure over the years, and I fear it may be on it's way down. Forget Lake Austin. Too many druggies and alcoholics on jet fleas and wake boats Travis has some big catfish, you just have to find them. I work on Lake Travis and as soon as I can get caught up with my business, I want to try baiting some holes and then going back and fishing them. There are a ton of coves and creeks that branch off the main lake with thousands of private boat docks. I think baiting around them would be productive, but I just haven't had a chance to do it yet. I've been told the narrows is pretty good but it's a long boat ride from where I store my boat and I'm not comfortable leaving my truck and trailer in an unattended parking area. Pace Bend may be OK to put in at, but it's a high recreation area with a lot of boat traffic.

I was thinking of putting in at pace bend and heading up the pedernales a ways. Does the traffic die off a little up there?

Figures. I'm a little put out with trying to catch cats at lake Austin. I think I'll start driving a little further to LBJ and check it out.

TP&W and their Asian carp project pretty much took care of fishing in Lake Austin. With no vegetation, there is little support for fish.Thank the millionaire home owners on Lake Austin who intimidated TP&W into making their lake "beautiful". Add to that the constant water turbulence from the go-fast & wake board boats and the idiot kids on jet skis, and you have the makings for a pretty miserable day on the water. There are better places to fish.

Best beat is to take a basket of French fries over to that floating restaurant Narly Gar on Lake Travis.
