I need to do some quick guide repairs for tomorrow and was wondering what the best way to do this would be. I do not have any supplies so all I have to work with is whatever I can buy from Academy, Walmart, etc.

Academy does sell replacement guides but they're just standard guides and I have micro guides on my rod. Will replacing micro guides with standard guides work until I can order some new ones or will this cause some sort of problem?

It also looks like Academy sells wrapping thread but I'm not seeing any epoxy on their website. What would be the best alternative to use that will work as a temporary fix but will not be impossible to remove later down the line?

If anyone knows of any other stores near Conroe that might have supplies that would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance for all responses.

In a pinch i used white glue and sewing thread. Glue guide in place. Put small dot of glue on guide foot. Start the string winding either by spinning the rod slowly to keep it tight and the other wrapping around the rod by hand. Once you have about twenty good wraps on it small dot of glue and smoth. allow to dry and trim. Same on other side

Just replaced several rod guides on a few rods. Once I saw how easy it was, I went dug out every broken rod in the garage and removed all of the guides that were in decent shape.

What you need:

X-acto Knife
Lighter (if removing several, I just lit a candle)
Glue
Thread
2-part Epoxy (5 minute)
fine sandpaper
tape (freezer or scotch tape will work) (tape small piece of thread to rod that you are going to pull tag end with after finished, will see in videos)

Lots of videos on youtube that are really helpful, but I bought everything I needed at Wal-Mart.

If you don't have a rod turner the epoxy will sag a little. I just rotate by hand for several minutes and then place with guides up overnight. I trim it with X-Acto knife and sand smooth the following day.

If you are handwinding the spool like me, I find it helpful to tie a heavy weight to the first end of the thread and let it hang down to keep the wraps somewhat tight.

Not perfect but works good enough for me for a quick fix.

Answer is that you don't have enough rods ... Man nees a few spares for just such times

I would question how many guides your missing that u cannot get by for a few days.
