This is one of those questions that has probably been asked several times before but what is the difference between a brush pile and submerged timber?
I'm guessing submerged timber is exactly that a tree that is underwater but then I guess the real question is what is a brush pile? What does it look like out of the water?

Submerged timber is usually thought to be standing or fallen whereas brush piles are man made to resemble a natural lay down or standing timber.

They are pretty much the same. The only difference is that submerged timber typically has older larger limbs and usually come up off of the bottom a good ways while brushpiles tend to have more small limbs and are usually closer to the bottom. IMO, Submerged timber tends to spread the fish out more as they cover more area than brush will.

IMHO: Timber usually holds fewer but better fish. BPs, especially if large enough, will hold better numbers with lots of dinks.
If I'm filling the freezer, I'm hitting BPs. If I'm going for big tourney fish, I'm hitting timber.

submerged timber does damage to fiberglass boats and lower units. Brushpiles, not so much.

a lot more active fish..
