The rivets in my 2012 ranger Z520 lid hinges are breaking. They look to be aluminum rivets. Replacing with the same size wont work because i cant get all of the old rivets out. They seem to be aluminum lids in fiberglass. Has anyone else had to repair the same issue? If so, what did you use? Thanks!

Drill the old rivets out. Use a 3/16 drill bit. You will end up pushing about the 1/2 the old rivet into the lid. Replace with stainless if you can find them.

Some times a small drill bit like 1/16 will get them out especially if you use a pair of dikes or wire cutter and cut off the back end of the rivet. Replace with stainless rivets and get a good rivet gun, the cheap ones won't pull a stainless rivet. Instead of using rivets I went back with machine screws and nuts also stainless. Easier if you take the lids off.

Yeah. That happens. Super common. Drill them and replace. Easy peasy cheesy.

Use aluminum pop rivets. You don't want to introduce rust on a ranger.

3/16 drill bit right in the middle of old rivet.

Insert new rivet and pop in and good to go

I have seen this in an older model Ranger as well. Recently...

They are, my 97 Ranger 372 boat trailer and motor have had very little maintenance, while my dad's 97 Nitro has had to replace the trailer, then had to have a gator hull liner put on to stop the hull rotting.

Yes I have replaced my rivets, replaced my carpet, replaced my hydraulic steering pump, replaced two trolling motors and one fender, but the hull is bullet proof, yes it's nicked up, but I bounce off and break off stumps. You won't do that in a Nitro.

I do it in my Nitro.....and it's only one year newer than your Ranger. And it's not rotted, nor has the trailer had an issue. The boat is tournament fished two to three times a week, and fished 4-5 days a week. It's not a cream puff, but it is mechanically in near perfect condition.

Every manufacturer can make a good boat, and a bad boat. It depends on the employee that worked that day. Unless the overall design is problematic.
