Well this week has been a very busy and successful week on Ray Roberts. The crappie have been great! I'm still having most luck on minnows tipped on a jig. Some days I catch most of my fish in 11-15 ft of water. The next I might catch them all in 17-28 ft of water. But they are normally eating well somewhere. I've had a crazy week! Between trips I've been trying to put a few fish together for myself for a 4th of July fish fry were having. So when my customer had to cancel on me this morning, I decided to keep the day open for myself so I could take my 4 year old Mason and try to catch as many as we could for the fish fry. The fish were really eating and at about 744 we already had 25 or so keepers and Mason said "daddy I got a big one". I believed him because his Bonehead rod was bent in half! I got the net ready and the fish made a run away from the boat. When Mason turned him he ran straight in the net. I knew immediately it would most likely beat the current junior lake record. So needless to say, my load the boat up with fish day changed to a let's get this fish certified while it's alive day! We headed i and cleaned my fish and then took the big girl to the state park. She weighed in at 1.88 beating the current record of 1.76! He was so proud and so was I! It was a great day! I'll be back at it tomorrow morning and I don't have any openings until Thursday of this week. If someone is looking to learn the lake and timber fishing, right now is a solid time to do it. Best time of year for me for sure! Working mans and half days. Also have some weekend stuff available. Call me or message me if you're interested. My boys will not be happy to hear this. They've been looking for a 1.77 for a few years. Now they'll be looking for a 1.89 I've weighed a 1.64 and a 1.7 for them. So close!
