Okay maybe someone has a logical answer. I have had this thing since November, pulls the boat great with the Ecoboost, just the tires always felt mushy.

So last week I take it in for an oil change and tire rotation, the dealer puts 42-44 psi in the tires. Door sticker is 35, that is where I have been running them. Then I look closer at the tire, 51 psi max, WTH?

My thought is to run them around 40 to stiffen up the side wall and take some of the mushiness out of the rear end.

They are Hankook Dynapro HT 265-60-18 on a 2016 Supercrew 2 wheel drive. Any tire gurus on here have any thoughts?

Door sticker is info on Factory issued tires of some kind. I changed my original tires to a larger set with mud grips in the rear. What ever PSI is on the new tires, Firestone put that amt in it, or maybe a little less to allow for heat expansion.

My Tacoma came with BFG ATs from factory and i had a supplemental door sticker that said 46 psi. Normal OEM tires at that time were Dunlops with highway tread. Door sticker 29 and 30 or 31. When took it in during free maint. they would 30 in. It drove me nuts. Different tire types do require different PSI. Best to do chalk test.

Like stump jumper said do a chalk test will give you your best wear. It may be mushy to you but I don't know what to say to that other than it provides better wear, longer tire life, and better tractions than when aired up more so get over whatever you consider mushy and drive it.

I have Hankooks on my 2016 with 20" wheels. I run 40-42 (cold) and have no complaints. Never had Hankooks before, but these seem to be a pretty good tire.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

Thanks guys, I am going to run 40-42 cold for a while and see how it does. Definitely drives and rides better. I won't trust the dealer again! Chalk test this weekend just for grins, thanks stump jumper.

Easy way to do chalk test without chalk and without wasting any time. With tires aired up drive to work etc. when you get there look at your tires. Likely the center area of the tread will be gray with a darker strip along each edge of the tread. The dark strip is not touching the road and means you have more inflation than you need. Let a little out of the tire and recheck next time you drive somewhere. In a pickup you probably wont be able to get it perfect on the back end if you have Tire Pressure Monitors. In my dodge if I get the tire pressure low enough to pass the chalk test the tire light is on.

On my 2012 Silverado, the door calls for 30 cold. At 30, they will heat up to about 33 in a few miles. Discount always puts 40 in them and they ride too rough for me! Sidewall on the tires says 45 max.

this works real well with a fairly aggressive tire or one that has wide ribs

I have a 2016 F150 with the Hankook 275-55 R20 tires. I think mine are like others have said; 35 psi on the sticker, but 51 on the tire itself. I could understand a small difference in psi, but why such a huge difference?

and don't anybody say "go ask your Ford dealer". I'm not sure those guys even realize that their trucks even have tires!!

Here is what I mean so you can see. First is a front tire with 39 PSI, notice tread is gray all the way to the edge.

Second is a rear tire with 35 PSI, notice the dark ring around the edge of the tire? There is one on the inside and outside which indicates the tire has too much pressure for the load. If I drop them any more they will set the low pressure light on, so I leave the rears at 35. Tires have 30,000+ miles on them and look almost new.

On my Goodyear's and my TKO's, I run 50-55 psi in front and my edges still wear faster. I can run 40-45 psi in back and they wear fairly even.

Will vary by tire and truck. Are your TKO's 10 ply? If so they might need a little more air.

Last one I remember was my 2010 cummins. I ran 60 PSI all the time with BFG's in the front. The rear I ran 50-80 depending on load. Most of the time I left 55 in the rear because they wore pretty well and I could do most of what I do except the really heavy stuff without filling them up, but at 50 they really needed some more air if I put dang near anything in the truck.

Yeah, I bump the rear's to 60 psi when I haul the trailer. The sidewalls are so stiff, I can't tell any difference when I run more.

I put 40 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood in the bed and hooked up a flatbed with 10k worth of building supplies on it once. 60 was insufficient.

When we moved our dozer a few months ago 80 looked on the light side, wished we had a dually to move it.

Same truck, same tires. With 37 in the front, they are gray all the way across. With 35 in the rear, I have about 1/2" of dark on inside and outside.

Tire sidewall pressure info is the Max. pressure you can put in the tire for it's load weight rating.

Door sticker tire pressure info is published for size tires shown on door sticker with no load in bed. Supposedly gives you best ride and wear.

If you put on larger or smaller tires than the door sticker tire size then you definitely should experiment and chalk test for best wear/ride.

I have the same tires Hankook dynapros HT on my F150 4X4. First and last set for me and glad I bought the warranty at Pep Boys.
So far have had two blow outs on different corners of the truck on separate occasions has well as a large mesquite thorn through the side wall on two different trips. I am afraid to even run over a squirrel for fear of popping a tire. I will be switching back to Nitto OR BFG with an all terrain heavier sidewall and tread tire before hunting season. I have bought dozens of sets of tires and have never had this many issues with a set of tires. On topic I run 44-45 lbs all the way around bang peep

Update on this one. I kept 40 in them all the way around, towed the boat to Toledo and back this weekend. The additional air pressure definitely made a difference towing, so it will stay. Wear pattern on tires looks good. But there will be a change when these wear out.
