The answer to this question is a simple and very loud YES!!! However just like with anything in life there will be exceptions to the positive and negative. I've probably only used about 7 or 8 guides for bass fishing in my life.

2 were absolutely horrible and didn't seem to care about anything other than the clock running down on the day with them doing minimal effort but I still learned several things from both of these guys by simply asking some questions.

The other 5-6 guides were all awesome and extraordinarily fun, friendly, great at what they do. They genuinely wanted to teach me why we were fishing a certain spot and/or using a certain technique.

Most of my favorites no longer guide so dropping their names won't help the OP but I can tell you that Dannie Golden on Ray Roberts is about as good as it gets with this in my opinion. He's got the perfect personality to truly want to help someone learn while they are out there. Just don't get him to trap you into playing the game A$$hole. He's a magician at never coming out a loser on this one despite all my efforts.

If you get the right guide, have realistic expectations, let him know what you are trying to accomplish I think you can cut the learning curve down. Is it worth $300? That depends on how you feel about the $300. It doesn't take long to run through $300 in gas etc, running back and forth to the lake being unproductive. I have done the Clark Rheem class, do to timing we didn't go out on the lake strictly did class room. It was a good expenditure in my mind. I'm sure Biggs would be money well spent, Caldemeyer at fork is great deep water guy, and with a little arm twisting I believe Pete Hernandez out here on the west side is doing some instruction here and there.

LoL
I'm tossing the idea around,
Now I'm now where near as good as Biggs,
but if you are wanting to learn new techniques or how to read set up a graph/ or break down a body of water I feel that I could help with that. I'm just trying to get my work schedule figured out before I make a decision.

Pete,
You'd do fine. 90% of it is being a good teacher & explaining bass fishing in a simplistic manor using common sense & logic. Bass are a little green fish with a brain the size of a pea. They aren't that smart. We as anglers make it way harder than it has to be.

Every sport has a coach almost. We spend 100k on trucks, boats & all the latest & greatest gear with little results to show for it. Why not spent a few hundred to actually improve?
